The Rt Hon Simon Burns MP, Minister of State for Transport, takes a look at the Siemens Desiro City at Railtex.
The company is showcasing its proven track record across rolling stock, station management, mobile communications and ETCS equipment. A wide range of exhibits and experts from across the Siemens portfolio of rail solutions will be present at the stand.
Nick Watson, Sales Director at Siemens Rail Systems, is speaking at the Railtex conference at 2.30pm on Wednesday 1st May. This seminar, using real life examples and case studies, explores how the UK rail industry can incorporate innovative technologies and solutions that drive down costs, drive up efficiencies, increase passenger satisfaction and keep trains at the leading edge of technology for our busy rail network.
Highlights at the stand include:
- Eurostar e320 model: developed for the global market, the Eurostar e320 is based on Siemens' Velaro family of high-speed trains.
- The Desiro City model: designed for the commuter and inter-urban services in the UK and an evolution of the proven Desiro platform.
- RailBAM® Acoustic Bearing Monitoring demonstration: the trackside system listens to axle journal bearings as the trains pass the equipment at line speed. It can potentially identify bearings with minor defects 6 months prior to them been identified through the traditional methods.
- Inspiro Metro model: developed to bring maximum utility through high transport capacities and low operating costs, combined with energy efficiency and environmental friendliness at all stages from manufacture and daily operation to almost complete recyclability.
- RailCom Station Management System demonstration: the system is an integrated suite of modules that enables operators to increase efficiency, control costs and improve passengers' rail travel experience.
- GSM-R demonstration: the only digital system proven to fulfil railway needs in conventional and high-speed line conditions. This proven system, adopted by Europe, is now expanding around the world.
- ETCS onboard system simulator: this small, light, low power and internationally proven system has core components housed in just two 3U racks. Siemens ETCS can be installed into the tightest places and without the need to remove seating or other equipment.
- Clearguard ACM 100 Axle Counting System demonstration: this modular and scalable axle counter system is made up of ACM modules and WSD wheel detectors, providing fail-safe axle counting for all types of electronic and relay interlockings.
- Crabtree Sub Surface Rail approved (Section12) Polestar Compact 16kA Distribution boards and devices
In addition to the demonstrations at stand D13, visitors can also find the Siemens' REcube at Y15 in The Yard. The REcude exhibits a number of Rail Electrification products and services, providing awareness and information material for our rail customers.
