Siemens apprentices welcome Flat Bill

Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery in Lincoln has this week welcomed two visits from people key to the company’s success.

Frimley, UK, 2016-Sep-09

  • 17 Lincoln-based school leavers join Siemens’ apprenticeship scheme
  • The embark upon an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rated course of studies
  • The apprentices met founder of Siemens in the UK, Sir William Siemens

Fittingly, first came Flat Bill – a full size representation of Sir William Siemens, the founder of Siemens in the UK in 1858 and created the foundations for its success with his innovative, ingenious engineering.

Next came Siemens’ latest intake of apprentices, 17 of the brightest and best who will follow Siemens’ Ofsted ‘Outstanding’-rated apprenticeship scheme.

The two visitors met when the apprentices visited the Teal Park site to begin their two week induction to the company, before they are based at Lincoln College studying until June 2017.

Flat Bill introduces some of the company values to the newest employees; the apprentices’ first week also marks the first 100 days since the company’s introduction of the Ingenuity for life branding – a sign that they will continue the company’s groundbreaking ingenuity and innovation.

To deliver these goals, the apprentices get class-leading teaching, learning and assessment, and resources such as the £10 million training facility based in Newcastle. Ofsted rates Siemens apprenticeship scheme as Outstanding in all five of its inspection criteria.

This group join 500 apprentices to have gone through, and benefitted from, the scheme so far.

Ofsted also makes note of the expectation given to the apprentices that they will become the leaders and senior managers of the future within the company.

Mark Speed, Head of Project Management and executive sponsor of the apprentices scheme in Lincoln says, “The day the apprentices start is always an exciting one, but this year more than ever we can show our newest colleagues how Ingenuity for life has built success for our company for over 150 years. These apprentices are no different from Sir William himself; he was passionate, innovative and committed – qualities that our apprentices demonstrate time after time.”
