Siemens announces proposals for new site development in Lincoln

Siemens has announced today its decision to go ahead with revised relocation plans for its industrial gas turbine service business currently located at Firth Road and Olympic House, as well as its overhaul workshop from Ruston Works to a new site in Lincoln. The service business together with Siemens other operations in Lincoln have enjoyed a record order year. The proposed move will capitalise on this success and represents a significant new investment in the Lincoln business, to facilitate growth and expansion.

Siemens’ service business employs around 540 people in Lincoln and is the global service product centre for small scale (1.5-15 MW) industrial gas turbines providing technical product support and overhauls for a fleet of 1,650 gas turbines globally. Siemens is considering a number of locations for its new office and workshop facility, but has confirmed that its preferred site is at Teal Park, situated close by on Lincoln’s bypass. Siemens is working with its current landlord, St Modwen on this project to facilitate the move.

The project would consolidate the service activities into the new location, likely to consist of 4,500 sqm office area and a 7,300 sqm overhaul workshop. The site will also have the capability to accommodate future expansion to both the office and workshop facilities.

As Neil Corner, director of Service at Lincoln comments: "The proposed move will bring major benefits to the business through rationalisation and consolidation of our geographic footprint. The new facility will bring together the majority of our service operations in Lincoln on to one site that will deliver clear business benefits, as well as create a world class facility to deliver a first class service to our customers".

Building works will commence in mid-2011 and the projected completion date is targeted for summer 2012.
