Siemens announces partnership with AMEC to deliver turnkey wind power solutions for small to medium size wind projects

Siemens, the world leading provider of onshore and offshore wind power solutions today announces a partnership with AMEC, the international Engineering and Project Management Company to provide turnkey solutions tailored to the small to medium scale wind farm market in the UK.

United Kingdom, 2010-Nov-03

The partnership, which brings together Siemens’ wind turbine and service capability with AMEC’s project management, engineering and installation experience, will enable the two firms to address the needs of small to medium developers within the UK.

The arrangement enables the developer to access the combined expertise of two world leading engineering brands for the first time in order to exploit this promising small to medium scale wind power market segment.

Traditionally, access to the wind power market would have been out of reach for many individual developers, who would have had to contract with several different organisations to establish the project, making it not only financially challenging, but also high risk. The Siemens / AMEC collaboration will simplify the process, as it is based upon the offer of a turnkey solution, to the small to medium scale developer, with requirements for as little as one or two turbines.

As part of the turnkey offer AMEC will be the primary point of contact for the developer and responsible for undertaking the project management, engineering, civils and electrical infrastructure work at the site, with Siemens providing the 2.3MW wind turbines. Siemens will also provide turbine service and maintenance over the lifetime of operation.Commenting on the partnership, Christoph Ehlers, managing director of Siemens Renewables UK said: “Siemens is the leading provider of large onshore and offshore wind turbine generating capacity in the UK. We also recognise that there are other types of opportunities within the rapidly growing renewables sector, including the small to medium developer market. Developing this market offers another way in which the wind power sector can be grown in the UK to help meet our national renewable targets. This new combined turnkey offering enables us to address the small to medium scale wind farm market and we are delighted to be announcing this partnership with AMEC today.”

Tony Ford, commercial director AMEC’s Asset Support business said: “For AMEC this represents a further step forward in the clean energy sector, in which wind power will play an important part. By collaborating with Siemens, the leading provider of wind turbines in the UK, we can offer a complete solution to developers and help the UK to meet its carbon reduction target.”

This service will be available from November 2010 across the UK.
