Frimley, UK, 2015-Jun-03
The event was aimed at presenting Siemens university engagement activities and to build relationships with the 10 key universities Siemens collaborate with in the UK. It also provided an opportunity to share ideas within Talent Acquisition and Research and Development (R&D) collaborations as well as announcing the winners of Siemens global Principal Partner status.
Prinicipal Partner status is a Siemens global initiative offering increased levels of support for Siemens R&D and graduate recruitment.
Lincoln and Newcastle universities were announced as the recipients of Principal Partner status for their co-operations in the area of Research and development. This sees them join Cambridge and Manchester universities in the global engagement scheme and it is hoped that further UK universities are able to be promoted in the near future.
Siemens has a longstanding global programme of engagement with leading universities and research institutions focused on bringing together the best minds for talent development and innovation. A cooperation of Corporate Technology and Human Resources. This prestigious status was given in recognition of the wide ranging research collaborations across business sectors and also the efforts of these two universities to engage graduate talent with Siemens.
The collaboration provides the university with recruitment benefits by building up a talent pipeline and attracting high quality talent into Siemens.
Juergen Maier, Chief Executive, Siemens plc, said: "We are delighted to celebrate our collaboration with the UK’s top universities. Siemens has a very long heritage of innovation in the UK, which has helped to make us one of the country’s leading engineering companies. We look forward to strengthening these university relationships and working together on projects that will keep the UK at the forefront of technology innovation."
Siemens has a long standing association with many of the world's leading universities. Its university partnering programme represents another major part of its commitment to the UK skills agenda. Collaboration ranges from joint research programmes to development of new qualifications to meet future demands, to providing industry placements as an integral part of education programmes.
Toby Peyton-Jones, HR Director for Siemens plc, said: “At Siemens we know that it is engineers who will shape the future of the world we live in and find solutions for the world’s most pressing problems. Currently there just are not enough of them to meet the demands of not only Siemens but other companies as well. By actively focusing on a number of core universities we believe we can maximise the opportunities for strategic industry-led collaboration. “
Siemens is investing heavily in UK research and graduate recruitment and runs a UK-wide university engagement programme, which includes careers fairs, summer internships, year-long placements, graduate schemes, student visits to industry and collaborative project work. By establishing these links with universities Siemens hopes to give valuable opportunities to young people from across the UK, increasing their employability and skill base as well as gaining great input into the ongoing development of Siemens in the UK. Toby Peyton-Jones hopes that, by offering young people these opportunities it will, “press home the message that engineering can be a great career option and by gaining an insight into what it is like to work for a global engineering and technology company they will continue a career in this field and not be so tempted to join the banking sector."
