Siemens Healthcare recently hosted a four-day advanced cardiovascular CT course at Siemens Healthcare Headquarters in Frimley, Surrey. The specialist course ran in collaboration with the National Heart and Lung Institute and was designed to provide advanced, practical experience to cardiovascular imaging professionals. It was also developed to bolster confidence when dealing with cardiovascular CT, above and beyond basic reporting.
The sessions, which presented over 150 cases, incorporated a large range of lectures covering the breadth of the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (BSCI) / Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) curricula used for accreditation. It also included tips and tricks in the assessment of cardiac anatomy, coronary artery assessment and functional cardiovascular assessment.
The types of topics that were covered within the course included: scanner types and protocols, calcium scoring and coronary angiography, stent and graft assessment, functional assessment with cardiovascular CT, valvular heart disease, aortic pathology including TAVI assessment, extra-cardiac findings along with congenital heart disease and electrophysiology assessments.
“Siemens’ advanced cardiovascular CT course gave clinicians the opportunity to experience an intensive workshop to increase their confidence when dealing with cardiovascular CT,” states Dr Ed Nicol, Consultant Cardiologist at Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and Course Director. “The feedback we have received from delegates has been very positive, they found it very informative and have gone away with a deeper understanding in assessing cardiovascular findings in CT.”
“The course attendees from across Europe included cardiologists and radiologists, who were able to experience one-on-one training for four days on their own workstation using syngo.via,” states Russell Lodge, CT Business Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “The course was very hands on and covered many topics, from learning how to optimise acquisition, to going above and beyond basic reporting. Siemens looks forward to arranging future sessions to aid imaging confidence in clinicians.”
