Clinicians and patients at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin have welcomed an Artis zeegofrom Siemens Healthcare into a purposely designed and built hybrid theatre room. The theatre was dedicated and named in memory of Maurice Neligan, who performed Ireland’s first ever heart transplant.

The system was chosen after an extensive analysis of equipment available on the market, and its suitability for the Hospital’s needs. The Artis zeego is being used for a vast array of procedures, including aortic aneurysm repair, angiography and angioplasty procedures.

“Using the system is effortless. Clinicians have all had a very positive experience with the system allowing them more control during procedures than traditional floor or ceiling-mounted systems,” states Martin O’Donohoe, Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. “We have also been very impressed with the precise image quality whilst being able to apply minimal dose. Together, these features have allowed us to perform more complex procedures than before.”

Based on robotic technology, the Artis zeego provides surgeons and radiographers with flexibility for imaging through its virtually unrestricted access and C-arm positioning. It can be controlled with far greater ease and precision than a conventional C-arm system, providing advanced cross-sectional imaging and full-body coverage. The system also features Siemens’ syngo® DynaCT, an application that delivers 3D CT-like cross-sectional images of a specified area directly to the tableside. This provides soft tissue information while performing interventional procedures, assisting with operator confidence for improved patient management and care.

“The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital was looking for a fixed imaging system that offers both flexibility and user-friendliness, so we are delighted to hear how well clinicians have been adapting to the new system,” states Jane Scannell, Regional Account Manager at Siemens Healthcare in Ireland. “We are also pleased that the hospital is now able to perform many procedures that they were unable to previously, so we look forward to helping clinicians utilise the system to its maximum potential.”
