Network Rail awards £2 million contract to Siemens for renewal of King’s Cross signal post telephone system

United Kingdom, 2006-Jun-20

Network Rail has awarded Siemens a contract to renew the SPT telephone system at Kings Cross, one of London’s busiest and most important railway stations. The contract, which is valued at approximately £2 million, is part of Network Rail’s major investment programme and is designed to increase the reliability of communications between train drivers, trackside workers and signallers at King’s Cross.

The scope comprises the replacement of the existing life expired concentrator in Kings Cross PSB and approximately 600 trackside telephones, over approximately 90 miles of route, between Kings Cross, Biggleswade and Royston.

Commenting on the contract award, Michael Flynn, Siemens Transportation Systems infrastructure director said,” We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and to be part of the significant investment being made at Kings Cross.”

When the project is completed in mid 2007, signallers at Kings Cross will be able to communicate conveniently and easily, using a Siemens HiPath concentrator system, equipped with the latest touch screen technology.
