Major wins for Siemens Mobility at the Women in Rail Awards 2025

  • The Social Value Award at the Women in Rail Awards was won by Siemens Mobility.
  • Siemens Mobility’s Katie Roberts also won the Female Rising Star of the Year Award, with Joanne Cox and Natalie Thornton being ‘highly commended’ in their respective categories.

Siemens Mobility has been recognised for its outstanding contributions to the rail industry at the Women in Rail Awards 2025, a celebration of the individuals and organisations who have made a significant contribution to improving gender balance, equality, diversity and inclusion within the UK railway industry and local communities.

One of the highlights of the evening was Siemens Mobility being honoured with the prestigious Social Value Award, recognising the company’s far-reaching efforts to empower underrepresented groups and foster meaningful community engagement. Through initiatives such as targeted STEM outreach in primary schools, apprenticeship programmes, and employee volunteering, Siemens Mobility continues to lead the way in driving positive social change across the rail industry.

Sian Lloyd, Head of Sustainability for Siemens Mobility UK & Ireland said: “I was absolutely thrilled to accept the Social Value Award on behalf of Siemens Mobility. This award is a powerful reflection of our team’s dedication to making a positive impact through their work. I’m proud to be part of an organisation in which doing good is part of the way we do business.”

In addition to the company’s success, several Siemens Mobility colleagues were also recognised for their outstanding individual contributions:

  • Katie Roberts, Design Engineer, was awarded the Female Rising Star of the Year for her exceptional technical expertise and innovative work focused on reducing industry waste and improving safety outcomes.
  • Joanne Cox was Highly Commended in the Inspirational Woman of the Year category for her unwavering commitment to empowering others in the workplace.
  • Natalie Thornton was Highly Commended for the Adeline Ginn Unsung Hero Award, celebrating her tireless work with advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives in the Goole community.

These recognitions build on Siemens Mobility’s ongoing success at the Women in Rail Awards, including its 2023 win for Best Training or Development Programme. The company remains a leader in advancing gender equity through a series of pioneering initiatives. Its Seven Pillars of Business Confidence programme has driven a 40% promotion rate and a 97% retention rate among female graduates, while the Inspire programme has supported 89% of participating women in progressing into new roles, with 67% earning promotions. Siemens Mobility has also introduced an industry-leading maternity and adoption policy by offering 26 weeks’ full pay for maternity and adoption leave from Day 1 of employment. This is complemented by flexible working practices that promote a healthy work-life balance, particularly for working parents and carers.
