Leadership change at Siemens in Lincoln

United Kingdom, 2007-Jan-05

Niels Christiansen, managing director of Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery, in Lincoln, is to take on a global strategy role for Siemens.

Niels has run the Lincoln factory since September 2003, as well as leading Siemens’ global industrial gas turbine business. He will become vice president of global strategy for the overall Siemens Power Generation group from 1 February 2007.

Nick Muntz will, on the same date, take over as managing director of Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery in Lincoln, which employs more than 2,000 people researching, manufacturing and servicing gas turbines, used primarily in the oil and gas industry.

Nick, 42, was recruited by Siemens last year from the Weir Group, in Glasgow, and is currently Siemens’ director of production and engineering in Lincoln. He has worked for 20 years in the power, oil and gas manufacturing industry. His roles have included engineering, project management and manufacturing since qualifying from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with a first class degree in mechanical engineering.

He will focus on continuing the improvements in the Lincoln business, particularly in the areas of customer focus, quality culture and process improvement. Nick said: “I am delighted to be taking over leadership of such a prestigious company at a time of immense opportunity in a buoyant worldwide market.”

The Siemens Power Generation group, of which the Lincoln business is a part, has an annual turnover of more than €10 billion and employs some 36,000 people worldwide. The main focus for the new role of Niels Christiansen will be business mergers and acquisitions, analysis of markets, trends, and business sectors, business planning for technology, as well as the development of the overall strategic roadmap for Siemens PG. Niels will be based between the company’s headquarters in Erlangen, Germany, and Orlando, USA. He will also continue as a board member of the Lincoln business.
