Keadby 2 supports road safety charity BRAKE with £1,000 donation

Road safety charity BRAKE has been given a £1,000 boost following a donation from the Keadby 2 construction project in North Lincolnshire

The charity, which works to deliver road safety awareness, safe and sustainable road use and effective road safety policies, was nominated by Fraser Bowers who is currently working on the £350 million pound construction project located in Keadby, Scunthorpe for Brigg based CLS.

The nomination from Fraser was made as part of the projects Safety performance related donations scheme which will run throughout the projects construction phase. The scheme sees both SSE and Siemens donate to a joint fund of £1000 per month which can be awarded to charities nominated by site staff.

Jerry Pyke, SSE’s site safety advisor said: “It’s great that we have achieved such a high level of safety performance on the Keadby 2 project to date which has enabled us to donate to such a worthy cause. We look forward to continuing the donations scheme using our core value of safety as an incentive to make a positive local impact.”

Speaking on behalf of BRAKE, Lisa Kendall the charity’s Fundraising and Volunteer Manager added: “We were really grateful to have been awarded such a generous donation. We are a small charity that work hard to raise awareness of all aspects of road safety across the UK and the work we do relies on generous donations such as this from the Keadby 2 project, helping us to support families and individuals at often very difficult times along with promoting the importance of road safety.”

The Keadby 2 project, originally granted planning permission in 1993, commenced construction earlier this year and is expected to be complete in early 2022. Utilising the class leading Siemens 9000HL gas turbine, once operational the plant will be the most efficient CCGT on the UK grid, generating enough electricity to supply around 840,000 homes.
