Investors in People accreditation for Siemens Rolling Stock

Siemens has successfully achieved Investors in People accreditation for its Rolling Stock division in the UK – the top accolade which recognises good management practice and a positive approach to team work, learning and development.

UK, 2009-Nov-18

Siemens Rolling Stock Sales and Service teams demonstrated achievement of the required standard through a planned approach to setting and communicating objectives and developing people to deliver them.

The quest to meet the standard began in 2007 and is part of an ongoing improvement programme introduced by Siemens to make the best even better. It is the second time in a matter of weeks that Siemens has been recognised for excellence in the rail industry by an impartial awards body: the company recently received the Maintenance Team of the Year award at the National Rail Awards.

Steve Scrimshaw, Managing Director Rolling Stock, Siemens Mobility, said: “Our Investors in People accreditation relied on our employees to recognise that their individual contributions were of paramount importance for the overall success of our business and that collectively we could make a real difference for the benefit of our customers.

“This fantastic result is testament to our employees’ professionalism and commitment to delivering excellent customer service and I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their continued support.”

To achieve the accreditation, Siemens went through a challenging process of evaluation that including over 60 employee interviews to validate achievement of the required standard. Although a time consuming process, the accreditation will provide ongoing benefits to the company in terms of reducing costs and wastage, enhancing customer satisfaction and further motivating employees.Steve Scrimshaw added: “Achieving Investors in People accreditation reflects the priority we place upon attracting, retaining and investing in the most talented people for the benefit of our business. Our employees are key to driving greater performance, productivity and achieving a real competitive edge.”

In addition to having outstanding rail-industry expertise, the Siemens Rolling Stock and Service teams incorporate staff from diverse industry sectors such as Formula One, aerospace and yacht building to ensure best practice solutions gained in high pressure environments can be implemented effectively. The team operates a ‘pit-stop’ maintenance regime to ensure maximum availability across its 300-strong fleet of trains. As well as the newly-achieved Investors in People accreditation, Siemens is the only UK rail maintenance company that has been ‘recognised for excellence’ by the British Quality Foundation.
