The working partnership was so successful, that G A Northwest has been awarded with the Siemens Subsea Working in Partnership & Innovation Award. The Working in Partnership & Innovation Award is presented to a supplier who has excelled in a joint project.
The two companies developed a fully machined version of the gland housing adaptor for the SpecTRON10 subsea connector. Being able to produce this as a machined part has enabled Siemens Subsea to improve production, while meeting the demands of the ever changing oil and gas industry. This project was undertaken within a short time frame and has also enabled the business to achieve a significant cost saving.
Siemens has worked in partnership with G A Northwest, part of the Pryme group, on many previous occasions, collaborating with design engineers to deliver innovative manufacturing solutions that can reduce cost and lead times, while enhancing product quality.
The SpecTRON 10 right angled subsea connector project has been a successful joint venture between customer and supplier, enabling previously fabricated and machined super duplex components to undergo a major re-design by eliminating the need for welding.
Paul McKenny, Siemens Design Engineer, said: “G A Northwest is one of our key machine component suppliers who we have been working with for the past 15 years. We asked G A Northwest to work with us on this project so we could change from a welded assembly to a fully machined version.
“We have built up an excellent working relationship with them over the years and they are a trusted and well respected supplier with a breadth of expertise. Working together, they produced the new part we required on time and on budget.
“G A Northwest is a very worthy winner of this prestigious award”.
John Friel, General Manager, G A Northwest, adds: “Now using solid bar material, taking 3D models, importing files into sophisticated machining software, linking various 5 axis machining centres and combining modern techniques with the latest cutting tool technology, has led to vastly improved product quality, repeatability and ease of assembly, reducing cost and lead time to ultimately increase customer confidence and orders.
“A big thank you to the Siemens engineers for understanding and believing in the process at the initial stage and for seeing the project through to completion. Thanks also go to the G A Northwest team who must be congratulated for their dedication and constant can do attitude throughout the process”.
