First ScotRail and Transport Scotland invest over 300 million euros in train fleet

Siemens to supply 38 regional trains plus service

United Kingdom, 2008-Jul-28

Transport Scotland, the national transport agency for Scotland, and First ScotRail, the rail operator, have placed an order with Siemens Mobility for the supply of 38 Desiro UK type electric multiple units. The order is worth over 300 million euros (over 240 million pounds sterling) and also includes maintenance and spare parts service.

For Siemens’ Rolling Stock Business Unit, this is the first train order ever received from Scotland. And it will raise the number of units in the Desiro fleet in Great Britain to a total of 354.

The 38 new trains are due to enter passenger service in December 2010 and initially operate between the cities of Ayr and Glasgow. They will be built at the Siemens plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. For more information - www.siemenstransportation.co.uk
