Cricket for a cause: Siemens Mobility raises £24,000 for local Goole charities for third year running

  • Siemens Mobility run annual charity cricket tournament with partners and customers.
  • £24,000 raised for six local charities.

For the third year running, Siemens Mobility is making a continued and increasing impact in the community by hosting a Charity Cricket Day, established specifically to raise vital funds for local charities in and around Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

This year, Siemens Mobility is sharing funds raised with six local charities, all benefiting from life-changing contributions. The charities include:

  • The Friends of Oakhill, a volunteering group dedicated to maintaining and enhancing Oakhill Nature Reserve, which neighbours the Rail Village.
  • Two Rivers Community Pantry, a social supermarket and foodbank serving Goole and surrounding areas.
  • West Park Green Team, which promotes the benefits of gardens and horticulture for health, wellbeing and the environment.
  • A Shining Light (Howden), a school-based community charity operated by Howden Secondary School, raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
  • Families in Goole, a community charity which offers free drop-in groups for families in Goole, offering advocacy and advice services as well as activities for children.
  • Goole Boxing Club, a not-for-profit sports club which works to build discipline, confidence and life skills, helping to reduce antisocial behavior, and improve community well-being.

Sambit Banerjee, Joint CEO of Siemens Mobility UK&I said: “We are delighted to have hosted our Goole Charity Cricket Day, involving a fantastic day of sport and showing the generosity of our customers and partners for the third year running.

“Our commitment to Goole is not limited to the investment we have made into our Rail Village, it’s also about supporting local community groups and charities – forming an important part of our mission to transform rail travel and transport in the UK.”

This year’s event welcomed our valued partners and customers - Angel Trains, Knorr-Bremse Rail Vehicle Systems, Porterbrook and Rock Rail, who returned to the tournament for a third year, as well as new team 7 Futures, battling it out against three Siemens Mobility teams.

Cllr Anne Handley, Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, commented: “Over the past 2 years the Siemens Charity Cricket Day has raised over £45,000 for local charities, all striving to make lives in Goole better.

“We are so delighted that this day, now firmly established in the annual calendar, continues to make such an impact to the people of Goole, alongside the many incredible volunteering contributions from the team at Siemens Mobility.”

The Goole Charity Cricket Day is just one of many initiatives Siemens Mobility commits to annually, in pursuit of making a lasting impact on the local community. Wider initiatives include Siemens Mobility’s partnership with the charity, Primary Engineer, to deliver Science, Technology, Engineering and Math engagement programmes to 13 local schools, with aim to introduce primary aged children to engineering concepts and skills and drive interest in engineering careers.

Two Rivers Community Pantry, a social supermarket and foodbank serving Goole and surrounding areas, is another organisation that Siemens Mobility has shown continued support to, with 2024 marking the fifth consecutive year of donations and support at Christmas.
